Cassia make their welcomed return with their second single of 2026, ‘lemon gelato’, alongside the announcement of their upcoming album of the same name - out August 28th.

Today’s title track blends Cassia’s signature synth-driven, globally influenced sound with more introspective lyrics. Built on a looping guitar motif and steady percussion, it expands with layered synths and vocals to create a reflective, summery mood. The track centers on a relationship at a crossroads, balancing nostalgic warmth with emotional uncertainty.

As the band explain; “Lemon Gelato is about breaking the loop - trying to move on and leave an old part of you behind, even if you’re not sure you’re ready to. It’s like a woozy rumination about that push and pull when someone drifts in and out of your life, leaving everything feeling exposed, uncertain, and a bit surreal.”

Written in Berlin, the album itself is a melting pot of themes about identity and growth, wrapped up in the perfect alt-summer soundtrack. An emotional tension runs throughout, balanced by the band’s innate sense of escapism, creating a collection that feels both deeply personal and transportive. It came together rapidly following the band’s everyone, outside tour, with a surge of inspiration leading them into a prolific creative state. Cassia approached this project with a fresh creative process, leaning heavily on instinct and intuition. They experimented with texture, embracing imperfections and human moments, then sampling and reshaping them into fully realised songs. The result is an album driven by rhythm, new influences, and an expansive sense of sound - arguably the band’s biggest yet.

Cassia’s rise has been impressive. From their early days busking the streets of Cornwall to playing major festivals, touring the world and receiving critical acclaim from BBC Radio 1, Radio X, The Independent, Rolling Stone UK, Clash & many more, the band has carved out a unique niche. Their sound, influenced by the African music Rob’s father introduced him to, combined with the indie heritage of nearby Manchester, combines the positivity of bands like Foals and Vampire Weekend, with the jazz-tinged afrobeats of Fela Kuti and Ebo Taylor.

After signing to Distiller Records in 2018, the band gave up their full-time jobs and ventured to Bath to record their debut album, Replica. Follow up everyone, outside took Cassia’s sound to new heights, written off the back of two years of relentless touring and returning to a studio they built themselves in Macclesfield. And their forthcoming new album sees the band set up camp in Berlin. Tracks such as ‘Right There’, ‘Drifting’ & ‘100 Times Over’ have amassed millions of streams, seeing the band sell out multiple headline Tours both in the UK and Europe.

Playing to a homecoming capacity crowd at Manchester’s Here at Outernet, as well as sold out headline shows at London’s KOKO, the band have accrued a huge, loyal following and their live shows earned them a nomination for Best Live Act at the AIM Awards alongside Idles and DMA’s, as well as making them the winners of Reeperbahn’s Anchor Award in 2022. Cassia will hit the road later this year for a 19-date UK and EU tour, and will see the band perform to over 15,000 fans, including stops at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town and Manchester’s O2 Ritz.

lemon gelato captures growth, the complexity of relationships, and the freedom found in authenticity. At the same time, it retains that unmistakable sense of nostalgia, cementing Cassia’s place as leaders of evocative, feel-good indie with emotional depth.
